About the role

Software engineer focused on debugging field-reported anomalies in autonomous underwater/surface vehicle systems, delivering real fixes from the field to production while building cross-subsystem fluency and contributing to subsystem roadmaps.

Responsibilities

  • Take a field-reported anomaly (sensor stopped publishing, mission faulted mid-track, data stream drifted) and determine the actual subsystem at fault.
  • Reproduce issues by replaying recorded sensor/mission data through the live pipeline and visualize results.
  • Use existing metrics and logs to reconstruct system state at failure.
  • Validate fixes in simulated or hardware-in-the-loop environments before deployment to real vehicles.
  • Write fixes in the subsystem's language (Rust, C++, Python, Go, etc.) with tests and CI deployment.
  • Identify if the root cause is a bug, bad configuration, or deployment mismatch, and fix at the correct layer.
  • Document root cause and fix for each closed issue to inform future reliability and tests.
  • Collaborate with owning teams and push back when a systemic change is required rather than patching symptoms.

Qualifications

  • Real experience debugging code under time pressure with incomplete information.
  • Comfort in at least two of Rust, modern C++, Python, Go to read and fix bugs.
  • Systems-debugging instincts: pull logs and metrics, reconstruct events, reproduce from recorded data.
  • Exposure to observability tooling (Prometheus/Grafana-class metrics, Loki/ELK-class logs).
  • Linux and systems fluency; bonus for declarative/immutable OS setups (NixOS-style).
  • Ability to clearly write up what happened and the cause without padding.
  • Willingness to work close to hardware and sensors, even without maritime/robotics domain background.
  • Willingness to travel 25%+ of the time.

Skills

Required:Debugging under time pressureMulti-language debuggingSystems observability
Nice to have:Hardware-in-the-loop / simulation

Benefits

  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees.
  • Competitive equity grants included in the majority of full-time offers.
