About the role

DevSecOps Engineer to build and mature Virta’s application security program, embedding security across the development lifecycle and protecting sensitive health information in a cloud-native environment (GCP/Kubernetes). Remote, full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Improve Security Design: Assess security controls within GCP and Kubernetes, mature security posture.
  • Champion Secure Development: Integrate security best practices early into the software development lifecycle with engineering, product, and platform teams.
  • Build and Automate: Design, implement, and manage security tooling and automation for vulnerability detection, remediation, and compliance verification; replace manual processes with automation.
  • Refine Access Control: Evolve IAM strategy ensuring least-privilege access with robust auditing.
  • Strengthen Network Security: Improve network security architecture, policies, and controls in the cloud environment.
  • Develop Clear Standards: Establish and communicate security policies, standards, and guidelines for engineering teams.
  • Support Security Initiatives: Drive vulnerability management and incident response readiness.
  • Cultivate Security Awareness: Promote security awareness and best practices across the engineering organization.

Qualifications

  • Understanding and practical experience in securing cloud-native applications and infrastructure, particularly in Kubernetes environments; GCP experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong grasp of networking concepts, identity management (IAM), encryption, and common web application vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10).
  • Strong communication skills to articulate complex security concepts and influence technical direction.
  • Hands-on experience in application security, including secure coding practices, vulnerability management, and security testing (SAST, DAST, IAST); threat modeling a plus.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, specifically Terraform.
  • Development experience with Go and/or Python.
  • 5-7+ years of experience with 2+ years at a high growth startup or similar environment
