About the role

Procurement Operations lead for Anthropic's research organizations and related programs, owning the end-to-end purchasing path from initial request to signed agreement and accurate month-end spend data. Focused on high-volume procurements, vendor coordination, contract reviews, and implementing AI-enabled enhancements to intake, document review, and requester support.

Responsibilities

  • Own the purchasing path for R&D
  • Manage a high volume of purchase requests, work orders, and change orders each month across research teams and programs, keeping speed and accuracy high at the same time.
  • Serve as the primary procurement partner for Anthropic's research teams and special programs, guiding requesters from initial request to signed agreement and issued purchase order.
  • Review every purchase request in your portfolio for the right vendor record, contracting entity, complete commercial documents, correct spend categorization and service dates, and required approvals.
  • Determine what each request requires before it can move (SOW, order form, amendment, security/privacy review, or third party risk assessment) and route accordingly.
  • Launch and track contract review with Legal, ensure executed agreement supports the PO before it is issued.
  • Structure purchase orders to match vendor billing and accounting needs (GL account, cost center, service period) and manage change orders, renewals, and closures.
  • Be the dedicated operations partner for research services vendor portfolio with master agreements and frequent work orders.
  • Handle hardware, equipment, and lab purchasing (multi-line quotes, lead times, shipping/receiving, asset handoffs).
  • Code every PO correctly at creation (GL, spend category, cost center, service period) and understand accounting implications.
  • Deal with complex cases (spanning periods, milestones, per-unit work billed in arrears, credits/true-ups, mid-month amendments).
  • Own open PO book: receipts, periodic reviews, stale line cleanup, coding corrections, timely closures; ensure PO/rece ip t/invoice alignment.
  • Review month-end accruals for portfolio and coordinate with budget owners on estimates.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable to resolve holds, mismatches, and receiving questions to ensure timely payments.
  • Support audit and reporting with reliable data (commitment schedules and control evidence).
  • Stand up new programs: scope purchases, align with Legal/Security/Finance, ensure readiness before volume; maintain pipeline visibility.
  • Translate requirements for researchers and engineers; communicate operating reality back to teams to fit controls.
  • Be the front door: responsive in Slack/office hours, escalate blockers with context, explain purchasing policy, thresholds, and approval authorities.
  • Continuous improvement: maintain playbooks, intake guides, and SOPs; identify and fix manual steps; explore Claude/AI-assisted automation.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of owning a high-volume purchasing portfolio end-to-end in procure-to-pay and intake platform.
  • Solid working knowledge of accrual accounting as it applies to purchasing: accruals and reversals, service period and cutoff, prepaid vs. expense, GL and cost center coding.
  • Experience supporting outsourced or managed service vendors at scale with coordinating contracts, POs, and invoices.
  • Working knowledge of contract review, security/privacy review, and financial controls in purchases; good judgment on routing requests.
