About the role

Simulation engineer role to build and maintain simulation environments for large satellite constellations, including hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop, to support mission analysis, design decisions, and integration with partners and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the simulation environments behind large constellation mission analysis.
  • Build hardware-in-the-loop rigs with real hardware in the loop, and software-in-the-loop environments wired into automated test and release pipelines.
  • Model relevant physics (orbital and attitude dynamics, sensors, actuators, thermal behaviour, RF links) at appropriate fidelity; validate models against test and flight data.
  • Turn simulation results into trade studies, requirements evidence, and design recommendations the programme can act on.
  • Work with partners and suppliers to integrate their models and hardware, agree fidelity, and resolve discrepancies when running together.

Qualifications

  • Proven delivery of both software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop systems, including real hardware wired into a simulator.
  • Strong physics and modelling judgement with ability to defend simplifications and assess model trustworthiness.
  • Several years of production-grade software work in a large, shared codebase, with code review, CI, testing, and documentation. Proficiency in Python, and at least Rust or modern C++.
  • Ability to architect one environment serving both fast batch runs and full-fidelity wall-clock validation, including real-time and scheduling trade-offs.
  • Experience working across organizational boundaries, discussing with partners and suppliers, and explaining results and their limits to non-specialists.
