About the role

Electrical Manufacturing Engineer responsible for circuit card assemblies, embedded electronics manufacturing, and production test definition across NPI and rate production; drives DFM/DFT/DFX, test strategy, embedded hardware bring-up, EMS partner coordination, and adherence to MIL/IPC standards for high-reliability defense hardware.

Responsibilities

  • PCBA Design for Manufacturability & Assembly (DFM / DFA): collaborate with Electrical Hardware Design Engineers during schematic capture and layout to optimize multilayer boards for automated SMT production; review layouts in Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or Mentor Graphics for manufacturability and yield optimization; review component footprints and active IC packages for producibility.
  • Production Test Strategy & Process Definition: define manufacturing test strategy (ICT bed-of-nails, flying probe, boundary scan, FVT), establish test limits and fault-coverage metrics, drive DFT guidelines, define test processes and integration with MES data tracking.
  • Embedded Hardware Bring-Up, Firmware, & Automation: develop diagnostic scripts (Python/Bash), support initial board bring-up on manufacturing line, define production flashing and secure-key provisioning, validate interfaces (MIL-STD-1553, PCIe, Ethernet, CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, JTAG), collaborate with Embedded Software, FPGA, Test Engineering for low-level test hooks and firmware images.
  • Mil-Spec Quality, Standards, & Failure Analysis: enforce IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-J-STD-001 Class 3; lead electrical FA and 8D root-cause investigations; support ESS per MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704.
  • EMS Partner Management & Production Line Integration: qualify/audit external PCBA contract manufacturers, review SMT stencil designs, SPI/AOI/reflow profiles, conformal coating; transition eBOMs to mBOMs in PLM (Teamcenter); author SOPs and work instructions for handling, ESD, wire harness, and box builds.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent engineering field.
  • 3+ years in electrical manufacturing, PCBA industrialization, or hardware engineering with board-level manufacturing exposure (aerospace/defense/automotive/medical/telecommunications).
  • Proficiency with ECAD tools: Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or Mentor Graphics/PADS.
  • Hands-on PCBA production experience: SMT manufacturing, component placement, reflow profiling, wave/ selective soldering, DFM for rigid and rigid-flex boards.
  • Test process & DFT background: experience defining test coverage, test point guidelines, and manufacturing test strategies (ICT, functional, boundary scan).
  • Scripting & automation: Python or Bash for hardware interaction, instrument control, or test log parsing.
  • Embedded protocols: debugging/flashing/testing over CAN, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, UART, JTAG.
  • Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD-001.
  • U.S. Person status required for export-controlled data access.
