About the role

Senior Product Designer responsible for setting the vision and strategic direction for Instagram Design Systems, spanning component design, documentation, AI knowledge layers, and cross-platform standards to ensure quality and consistency at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, shape, and drive critical initiatives for Instagram's Design System. You'll spot gaps and opportunities that others miss — defining new strategic bets like component expansion, spec-to-code alignment, or AI-native tooling — and drive them from vision through execution with quality and coherence.
  • Design scalable, composable component systems across surfaces, platforms, and contexts including AI-assembled UI, defining motion language and interaction behaviors.
  • Close and maintain the gap between design spec and shipped code by creating frameworks and processes that keep design and engineering in sync.
  • Evolve the AI knowledge layer to keep AI-powered designer, reviewer, and prototyper agents current and accurate.
  • Hold the craft bar for systematic design across iOS, Android, iPad, and foldables, ensuring on-system feels better than bespoke.
  • Drive adoption through influence and organizational leadership to expand coverage and build organizational pull toward on-system building.
  • Build out new patterns with product teams to serve real product needs and create reusable on-system solutions.
  • Contribute to design tooling and workflow improvements to accelerate on-system work, including library management and templates, ensuring tooling connects to the system.
  • Build measurement approaches with data and engineering to understand system coverage, adoption, and quality.
  • Shape product group direction beyond design, influencing engineering architecture decisions, product priorities, and resource allocation.
  • Lobby for new ideas and navigate organizational complexity using deep institutional knowledge of how Meta builds products.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of product design experience with a proven track record of identifying and driving design system initiatives at consumer scale (component libraries, design tokens, documentation, or governance). Leadership of systemic work with broad organizational impact.
  • Portfolio demonstrating exceptional systems thinking and craft across component design, pattern libraries, cross-platform adaptation, or design tooling.
  • Deep experience designing for large-scale consumer products with cross-platform consistency and leadership across a product group.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and design systems that scale, with decision-making on abstraction, composability, and quality.
  • Experience partnering with engineering on component APIs, code architecture, and spec-to-code alignment.
  • Comfort with AI-native workflows and tooling, or strong intuition for structuring design knowledge for machine readability.
  • Experience measuring design system adoption and quality with evidence.
  • Cross-platform experience (iOS, Android, responsive) and familiarity with Android design patterns and workflows.
  • Optional coding experience, especially with design token infrastructure and semantic token structures.
  • Track record of investing in design workflow improvements (Figma libraries, templates, documentation) to raise quality and efficiency.
