Research Engineer role at Meta combining applied research and production engineering to translate cutting-edge AI advances into scalable, production-ready systems and real-world impact. Responsibilities include implementing and optimizing AI models, running experiments, collaborating with researchers, and deploying AI capabilities across Meta products.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and optimize machine learning models and AI systems, translating research prototypes into production-quality code
  • Design and run controlled experiments to evaluate model performance, validate hypotheses, and inform data-driven decisions in collaboration with research scientists
  • Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code for AI pipelines, including data preprocessing, model training, evaluation, and inference
  • Instrument AI systems with logging, monitoring, and alerting to track model behavior and detect regressions in production
  • Participate in code reviews to improve code quality and share knowledge of AI engineering best practices with peers
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including research scientists, product engineers, and data scientists to define requirements and deliver AI-powered features
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in model training and inference pipelines to improve latency and computational efficiency
  • Contribute to technical documentation for new AI features, experimental findings, and system design decisions
  • Follow privacy, security, and responsible AI practices throughout the model development and deployment lifecycle
  • Support safe rollout of AI model updates using feature flagging and staged deployment frameworks, monitoring key metrics during rollout

Qualifications

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
  • Experience implementing machine learning models or AI systems in Python using frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Experience writing automated tests, debugging model or pipeline issues, and ensuring reliability of AI systems
  • Experience with data analysis and experimentation, including designing and interpreting A/B tests or model evaluation experiments
  • Experience building and maintaining production-quality code, including code review participation and adherence to software engineering best practices
