About the role

Hybrid role combining supply chain leadership with growth strategy in Japan and Asia-Pacific. Build supplier relationships, advise growth teams, and shape pre-contract strategy while ensuring regulatory compliance and rapid scaling in a complex environment.

Responsibilities

  • Fuel Anduril's Japan expansion by supporting growth and corporate development teams and forging relationships with industry leaders across Japan
  • Shape pre-contract strategy by driving scope definition, proposal development, and term sheet generation during pre-commit phases of international captures
  • Be the supply chain voice in critical go/no-go decisions, bringing market intelligence and risk assessment to leadership discussions
  • Monitor and analyze Japan’s industrial ecosystem dynamics, manufacturing technologies, and regulatory developments to identify partnership opportunities
  • Develop regional supply base by identifying and qualifying suppliers across diverse commodity categories
  • Lead end-to-end supplier engagement including selection, qualification, onboarding, assessing technical capability, capacity, quality systems, and financial stability
  • Understand and mitigate supply chain risks across tier 1, 2, and 3 suppliers (keiretsu and independent)
  • Drive localization initiatives aligned with Japan’s national security and industrial participation expectations
  • Provide strategic advisory support to Japanese industry partners’ supply chain teams
  • Support comprehensive sourcing strategies for partners ensuring alignment with technical requirements and security considerations
  • Navigate regulatory complexity ensuring compliance with FEFTA, transfer restrictions, export controls, and defense guidelines
  • Partner with business line teams to align sourcing strategies with product roadmap and cost targets
  • Serve as primary liaison between engineering, operations, program teams, and Japanese manufacturing partners
  • Collaborate with Product Sourcing Engineers and Global Sourcing Managers for integrated solutions
  • Manage supplier performance including escalation protocols, corrective actions, and capacity planning for rapid scaling and new product introductions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or related field
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing or procurement focused on contract manufacturing, preferably in defense, aerospace, or advanced technology
  • Proven success negotiating and managing complex manufacturing agreements with Japanese suppliers; strong understanding of Japanese business culture and relationships
  • Professional fluency in Japanese and English (written and spoken)
  • Regulatory expertise in FEFTA, Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment, export controls, dual-use regulations
  • Broad commodity knowledge spanning electronics, precision manufacturing, materials, optics, sensors, and other defense-related categories
  • Track record managing complex supplier relationships and agreements with Japanese companies
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen including total cost modeling, should-cost analysis, and make-vs-buy; proficiency with ERP and sourcing tools
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 30–40%)
  • Ability to work across international time zones with U.S. partners
