About the role

Role on Whatnot's Financial Platform team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable financial systems that handle billions in transaction volume, including earnings, fees, taxes, duties, returns, refunds, and seller payouts across a global marketplace.

Responsibilities

  • : Design, build, and own reliable financial systems that support billions of dollars in transaction volume.
  • Develop scalable infrastructure that enables Whatnot to launch new markets, products, and ways for buyers and sellers to transact.
  • Make thoughtful technical trade-offs across correctness, reliability, speed, and scalability in systems where accuracy is critical.
  • Own projects end-to-end, from problem understanding and solution design through launch and iteration.
  • Partner across engineering, product, finance, and operations to solve complex financial and marketplace problems.
  • Help shape the architecture and technical direction of Whatnot’s financial platform as the business scales.

Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of software development experience building scalable systems
  • Experience with multiple programming languages (Python, Elixir, JavaScript) or willingness to work across them
  • Excellent product instincts and user-centric thinking
  • Ability to mentor others and build inclusive teams
  • Strong ownership and end-to-end delivery mindset
  • Proven track record of shipping features quickly
  • Open to frontend work when required
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Experience with payments, infrastructure, and international commerce (nice to have)
  • Startup experience at a high-growth company (nice to have)
