About the role

Senior Communications Manager to lead Whatnot's storytelling and strategy in Australia, building the comms function from the ground up and engaging corporate, consumer, Trust & Safety, and policy priorities in Whatnot's fastest-growing market.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the communications strategy in Australia.
  • Build understanding and credibility for live commerce among audiences.
  • Elevate Whatnot through relationships with Australian media and third parties to educate audiences on business, categories, policies, and values.
  • Build and scale issues management; manage crisis and real-time escalations; establish a communications playbook for rapid response.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of Public Relations or corporate communications experience.
  • Strong understanding of the media, cultural, and policy landscape in Australia.
  • Ability to operate on a small team and deliver results in ambiguity; scrappy attitude.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience developing key messages for media and owned channels.
  • Self-starter who can prioritize in challenging situations and balance community needs with business priorities.
  • Curiosity to promote Whatnot and its business.
  • Experience working on Trust & Safety issues and crisis management.
