About the role

Android Engineer role at Whatnot, a remote-first live commerce platform. Opportunity to work on product experiences or mobile infrastructure across multiple teams, building high-quality Android features using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, and collaborating with cross-functional partners. Remote with hub offices in NY, SF, Seattle; US citizen/visa required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality Android features and systems using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, backend, and mobile engineers to define goals, scope, and technical trade-offs.
  • Help evolve shared mobile infrastructure, architecture, and best practices across Whatnot’s engineering organization.
  • Build with performance, reliability, scalability, and user experience in mind.
  • Uphold engineering excellence through code reviews, documentation, and thoughtful technical discussions that raise the bar across the team.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience building and shipping high-quality Android applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Android expertise in creating fluid, responsive user interfaces. Strong knowledge of Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
  • Adept at reactive programming with Kotlin Coroutines and Flows. Fluent in MVI or MVVM development.
  • Care deeply about product quality and performance, creating polished experiences that balance usability and trust.
  • Thrive in cross-functional environments, partnering effectively with product, design, and backend peers.
  • Comfortable using data and experimentation (SQL, Snowflake, A/B testing) to guide decisions.
  • Clear communication and ability to drive alignment across teams in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
  • Growth mindset, taking ownership from concept to launch while mentoring others.
