Senior Product Engineer
About the role
Senior Product Engineer role focused on building Sauna by Wordware, an AI assistant product with a frontend-centered scope, tied to the Sauna platform and its user interfaces across web, mobile, and messaging surfaces.
Responsibilities
- Delegation primitives: handing work to Sauna, following progress, interrupting, approving, and undoing, for work that runs from seconds to overnight.
- Memory made visible: surfaces where users see what Sauna has learned about them, correct it, and watch it sharpen from every approval, edit, and rejection.
- Routines and apps: surfaces where users ask for real software (its own backend, data, and URL), install it, and monitor it and the routines that keep running after the conversation ends.
- Connected Saunas: shared sessions where several people and one Sauna work in the same thread in real time, and the door between one person's Sauna and a colleague's.
- One Sauna, every surface: same assistant, memory, and identity across web app, mobile, Slack, Superhuman, or email; onboarding from a single text message.
- Performance as a feature: local-first client (TanStack Query + IndexedDB persistence) with instant open on 10,000-message history.
- First-time experience and billing: funnel from landing page to trial to paying team, including trust-building with credit card and inbox access.
Qualifications
- Shipped complex web products and owned them after launch (multiplayer experiences, large-data apps with real fetching and caching, streaming or realtime UIs).
- Product sense with ability to sketch interaction, build, and defend tradeoffs.
- Deep React knowledge: state management, context vs store, re-renders, reusable components.
- Comfortable owning a full-stack feature end to end: migration, route, fetch, UI, analytics.
- Strong understanding of performance: caching, invalidation, optimistic updates; avoid duplicated network requests.
- Attention to craft: loading states, empty states, error copy, keyboard shortcuts, and other details that improve feel.
- Experience with AI workflows; opinions on where AI helps; professional AI-product experience not required but curiosity expected.
- Autonomous, low ego; able to ship without waiting for a spec and iterate based on feedback.
