About the role

Analyst supports Busara’s advisory arm within the Social Cohesion portfolio, assisting senior staff across multiple projects and clients with capacity strengthening, knowledge development, data handling, and client deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve inquiries on external and internal research data and act as a research resource for senior leadership, internal teams, staff, and external parties.
  • Source, clean, and structure data in collaboration with team members when necessary.
  • Support the design of quantitative and qualitative survey instruments and coordinate all survey development activities including research, formatting, liaising with survey programming teams, analyzing, summarizing, and presenting results; write reports highlighting key findings and present results.
  • Support the design and implementation of capacity strengthening initiatives with targeted stakeholder groups, including needs assessment analysis, organizing learning events (virtual and in-person), supporting partner engagements, and attending external events.
  • Assist Associates/Senior Associates in preparing materials such as training materials, drafts of client reports, experimental designs, literature reviews, proposals, and pitch decks.
  • Coordinate external stakeholder engagement through channels like written outputs, webinars, in-person events, and virtual learning sessions.
  • Support multiple large-scale research and advisory projects concurrently.
  • Clarify research requests to identify data sources and inform planning with Associates and Engagement Directors.
  • Carry out general logistics planning for project activities (phasing of field activities, coordinating meetings) in collaboration with the Project Operations team.
  • Participate in field work as required.
  • Ensure project coordination is communicated with relevant Busara teams (finance, procurement, operations, facilities, wellness) for proper engagement rollout.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the project supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Economics, Social Sciences, or related fields.
  • Experience and interest in topics of social cohesion (e.g., identity, trust, governance, conflict resolution, civic engagement)
  • Experience in client and partner relationship management
  • Experience in developing and disseminating learning materials
  • Understanding of key issues affecting social cohesion in the East African region.
  • High level of self-motivation and energy with a can-do attitude
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Qualitative and quantitative research or data analytic skills preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, and a team player
  • Interest and experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Fluency and excellent communication and writing skills in English (and possibly another language relevant to the office)
  • Extreme attention to detail with global institutional planning and decision-making focus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project locations (in-country, regional, and international)
