About the role

Forward Deployed Engineer Resident responsible for delivering safe, autonomous clinical conversations with patients, from conversation layer to integration design, including prompts, conversation logic, and data transport integrations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop advanced prompts for the conversation planning layer using prompting techniques (chain-of-thought, few-shot learning, role-based prompting, structured outputs)
  • Engineer conversation logic and patient interactions balancing clinical accuracy, safety guardrails, and patient experience
  • Design and build integrations connecting conversational agents to customer EHRs, scheduling systems, and telephony platforms (HL7/FHIR, REST/webhook APIs)
  • Collaborate with clinicians, product managers, and engineers to translate clinical requirements into conversation designs, conduct user testing, iterate based on feedback
  • Conduct experiments and analysis on model outputs, prompts, and conversation strategies; measure impact on clinical safety scores, patient satisfaction, task completion rates
  • Use advanced prompting techniques including retrieval augmentation, tool calling, conditional logic, and multi-turn management
  • Maintain and improve conversation codebase; ensure prompts are version-controlled, tested, and safely deployed to production environments
  • Work closely with customer engineering teams during go-lives to debug integration issues and create reusable patterns for future customers

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent coursework/projects)
  • 2+ years of professional software development or AI/ML experience
  • Strong Python proficiency with production or near-production code
  • Experience with LLM prompting in professional work or substantial projects (ChatGPT, Claude, or similar)
  • Experience building integrations with databases and RESTful APIs; understanding of async patterns and error handling
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to break down complex problems and iterate toward solutions
