About the role

Senior leadership role building and leading a centralized analytics and data science team embedded with business units to inform cross-functional decision-making, with a focus on data standards, certified data marts, forecasting, experimentation, and self-service analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Stand Up the Central Team: Define staffing, operating model, deployment, prioritization, and engagement with each domain.
  • Build and Develop the Team: Recruit and grow analysts and data scientists; define career paths and development.
  • Set Standards for Analytical Rigor: Establish methods for statistical work, forecasting, experimentation, and uncertainty communication; perform hands-on reviews.
  • Build the Data Science Capability: Identify where predictive methods add value and sequence investments (power utilization, capacity/demand forecasting, schedule/cost forecasting, fleet reliability, product experimentation).
  • Own Certified Marts and Metric Definitions: Manage business logic, certified data marts, metric dictionary, and business-rule testing; implement peer review.
  • Own Executive and Cross-Business Reporting: Responsible for executive and board reporting built on certified marts.
  • Drive High-Stakes Decision Support: Translate complex questions into clear analyses and recommendations.
  • Build Toward Self-Service: Enable routine question-answering without analysts, define table/field descriptions and certified metrics.
  • Maintain Close Proximity to the Business: Keep analysts embedded in domains; align central and BU priorities.
  • Partner with the Data Team: Collaborate on data foundation and domain context for new data models.

Qualifications

  • Analytics & Data Science Leadership: 15+ years in analytics/data science; 5+ years leading teams including data scientists, analysts, and analytics engineers; experience hiring and setting technical standards.
  • Technical Depth: Fluency with SQL and Python; strong data modeling; hands-on with dbt or equivalents; ability to build a certified data mart.
  • Data Science Depth: Experience applying forecasting, experimental design, and statistical inference; ownership of models in production.
  • Modern Data Stack Experience: Experience with BigQuery, dbt, Airflow or equivalents.
  • Governance Judgment: Experience defining/certifying metrics, testing business rules, resolving entities, maintaining consistent definitions.
  • Business and Financial Acumen: Understanding of P&L, unit economics, capital projects, and returns analysis; link operational metrics to financial outcomes.
  • Executive Communication: Ability to defend numbers and explain methods to non-technical audiences; credible with CFO and leaders.
  • Organizational Navigation: Ability to operate in dotted-line structures and balance competing priorities.
  • Ownership: Proactive in identifying and resolving data issues; own the resolution.
  • Comfort Building from Scratch: Eager to build processes and data capabilities where they don’t yet exist.
