About the role

Senior Software Engineer on the Ecosystem Services Team at Mozilla Corporation. Build and own back-end systems, maintain cloud infrastructure, and ensure production reliability while collaborating with frontend, CloudEng, and design partners. Multiple backend teams within Ecosystem Services, focused on privacy, security, and delivering functionality to Firefox and Mozilla products.

Responsibilities

  • Lead backend development, building and maintaining server-side logic
  • Take ownership of services end-to-end: deploy, operate, and keep healthy in production
  • Collaborate with CloudEng to maintain/monitor production environments using OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Prometheus, Grafana
  • Participate in on-call/off-hours rotation and incident triage with CloudEng and support teams
  • Periodically rotate into a support role handling releases and dependency updates
  • Apply AI-assisted development tools judiciously to improve speed and quality
  • Partner with stakeholders (frontend, platform) to ensure APIs and data contracts meet needs
  • Collaborate with frontend and cross-functional teams on API design and project goals
  • Participate in code reviews to uphold code quality and reliability
  • Engage in security and privacy reviews to meet compliance standards

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of software development experience with a strong backend focus
  • Strong experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust for backend services
  • Proficiency with PostgreSQL and SQL optimization; experience with migrations and Knex or similar query builders
  • Hands-on DevOps experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with Docker-based build/deploy pipelines
  • Experience with observability/monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana
  • Commitment to shipping quality, reliability, and pragmatism under constraints
  • Strong engineering judgment and ability to navigate ambiguity
  • Ownership mindset with track record of operating services in production (on-call experience)
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and driving technical excellence
