About the role

Engineer responsible for integrating machine controls, data pipelines, and OT/IT interfaces across Hadrian’s additive manufacturing and broader manufacturing fleet, ensuring end-to-end traceability, data integrity, and compliant, scalable integration across sites.

Responsibilities

  • Machine Connectivity Across the Fleet: Build and own the connectivity layer across the AM fleet — PC-based machine control systems, PLC-based subsystems, and vendor interfaces alike — including log, file, and tag-level extraction where no standard interface exists.
  • Canonical Data Model and Schema Governance: Own schemas, tag dictionaries, naming conventions, units, and versioning; govern schema changes to prevent downstream breakage.
  • Pipelines and Storage: Design, build, and operate telemetry and build data pipelines with storage in relational and time-series databases, ensuring uptime, backfill, and data integrity for qualification evidence.
  • Machine State Models and OPUS Integration: Define how machines report activity, how work is dispatched, and how build records link to parts, powder lots, machines, and operators for end-to-end traceability.
  • Requirements and Interface Baseline: Define interfaces and data requirements; verify delivered systems against them; maintain change-controlled interface documents for reproducibility across machines and sites.
  • Supplementary Instrumentation: Instrument and integrate additional sensing and edge compute where native data is insufficient.
  • OT Network and Controller Accreditation: Collaborate with IT and Security to achieve compliant network deployment and controller accreditation (NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC).
  • Safety State Integration: Integrate safety state into control/platform layer and validate interlock behavior per aerospace/defense requirements.
  • Commissioning and Acceptance Support: Support FAT/SAT from controls and connectivity perspectives to ensure integration standard compliance before production.
  • Build Preparation Toolchain Handoff: Support handoff from build prep to machine execution and back into manufacturing records.
  • OEM Technical Relationships: Manage OEM interfaces, data access, and change management with vendors to enforce interface requirements.
  • Qualification Data Foundation: Provide data integrity, audit trails, and configuration control support for installation and qualification processes.
  • Structured Problem Solving: Lead 8D, 5 Whys, and corrective actions for integration and data anomalies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 5+ years connecting production manufacturing equipment to higher-level software systems (MES, SCADA, historian, or data platforms) with hands-on integration ownership.
  • Hands-on fluency with industrial machine communication: OPC-UA and MQTT; PLC platforms (Siemens S7 and TIA Portal strongly preferred); familiarity with PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, or Modbus; MTConnect and REST APIs.
  • Experience integrating proprietary or undocumented OEM interfaces (log formats, file drops, vendor data access).
  • Strong database engineering: relational schema design, SQL, and time-series/historian storage experience; schema migration and versioning.
  • Experience designing/operating data pipelines in production (transport, streaming/batch processing, monitoring).
  • Proficiency in Python or equivalent for integration and data tooling; version control and code review discipline.
  • Experience implementing or validating safety interlock systems in production.
  • Ability to define technical interfaces and data requirements, translate to vendors/internal teams, and maintain change-controlled documentation.
  • On-site work in Torrance, CA, with up to 25% travel to deployment sites and OEM facilities.
  • U.S. person for ITAR purposes (citizenship, permanent residency, protected status, or eligible for required authorizations).
