About the role
Assistant General Counsel, Employment to provide day-to-day employment law advice, mitigate risk, and implement best practices across Nuro’s global workforce; reports to the Chief Legal Officer and partners with People team and business leaders.
Responsibilities
- Owner of the company’s employment practices and day-to-day employment law activities (from recruiting to separation).
- Advise on best practices and risk mitigation for the entire employee life-cycle; maintain employment templates, policies, and training.
- Primary point of contact for pre-litigation and litigation matters, including agency charges, discovery, motion practice, witness preparation, settlement negotiations, and directing outside counsel when needed.
- Partner with People and Operations to scale non-exempt workforce, wage/hour compliance, drug testing regulations, and terminations.
- Own employment legal and operational strategy for international growth and mobility (EU, Asia, Canada).
- Partner on internal investigations and employee relations matters; develop processes and policies and recommendations.
- Support cross-functional areas including leaves of absence and accommodations, performance management, contingent workers, compensation, privacy, immigration, and export control compliance.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of combined law firm and in-house experience focused on employment law, including extensive experience in California.
- Experience scaling a fast-growing company nationally and internationally is a plus.
- Experience at private and public companies is a plus.
- Admission to the California Bar (also plus if admitted in other jurisdictions).
