About the role

Role within Whatnot’s Financial Platform team, focused on how money, tax, and international commerce are processed across the platform. Responsible for scaling payment infrastructure, fraud mitigation, and transaction modeling with the ability to own projects end-to-end. Hybrid/remote options with Dublin hub requirement for onsite proximity.

Responsibilities

  • Globally responsible for how business moves and records money and credit in customer transactions, including taxes, customs, returns, refunds, and related processes.
  • Lead substantial improvements to critical infrastructure for payment scale and reliability, diverse payment options, and fraud mitigation.
  • Own aspects of the domain, define technical roadmaps, and lead cross-team solutions.
  • Architect and build systems or products to improve the business, balancing trade-offs and communicating them effectively.
  • Enable collaboration across teams, delegate ownership, and uplift teammates.
  • Mentor others and foster inclusive, high-performing teams.
  • Own projects from inception to production to maintenance, shipping high-quality features quickly and iteratively.
  • Participate in frontend work when required and adapt to new technologies.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software development experience building scalable systems for millions of users.
  • Excellent product instincts with user-centric and long-term objective focus.
  • Experience designing complex distributed systems powering high-usage products.
  • Ability to define and drive technical roadmaps and cross-team initiatives.
  • Strong ownership and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and influence without direct authority.
  • Experience with payment systems, infrastructure, and international commerce (nice to have).
  • Startup experience at a high-growth company (nice to have).
  • Knowledge of Python, Elixir, and JavaScript (direct experience nice to have).
