About the role

Staff backend engineer role focused on integrating data activation into the Fivetran product, mentoring others, and leading major projects within the Reverse ETL product engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Make contributions to all parts of our tech stack, which comprises Ruby on Rails, Typescript, Vue, and AWS.
  • Be comfortable “filling in the gaps” in product / design specs. Prototype to test ideas before committing to building.
  • Work closely with product teams, leaders, and customers to design and develop features for data activation within the Fivetran product.
  • Mentor early-career engineers, perform code reviews, advise on best practices, provide project-level leadership, and operate across teams, departments, and time zones.
  • Lead major projects, from driving research spikes to writing and socializing design documents, to planning implementation and rollout.

Qualifications

  • Experience across backend systems, APIs, and UI components.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a bias toward action and building delightful product experiences and developer experiences.
  • Ability to work well in ambiguous environments and make trust-building decisions with customers.
  • Present and available online for synchronous and asynchronous collaboration with a distributed team in North America.
  • Ability to work in-person in Toronto/Oakland office 2 days per week.
