About the role

Patreon is seeking a Security Engineer to protect creators and fans across application, infrastructure, and internal security. The role involves a mix of proactive security work, incident response, and software development to improve platform security. It is remote-friendly with potential in-office hybrid options in New York or San Francisco.

Responsibilities

  • Split time between contributing to security projects and responding to security investigations, vulnerabilities, or questions.
  • Work spans application security, infrastructure security, and internal/corporate security.
  • Engage in both proactive and reactive security work.
  • Be part of an on-call rotation and help respond to security incidents and investigations.
  • Write code to support security work and to improve Patreon platform security.
  • Collaborate with security team, Risk Engineering org, and cross-functional partners in engineering, legal, and IT.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience reducing security risks in application, infrastructure, or corporate security; ability to create a threat model and explain risk reduction strategies.
  • Three or more years of experience in at least one security or security-adjacent domain (infrastructure security, application security, cloud security, corporate/IT security, cryptography, privacy, etc.).
  • Ability to develop software (Python, Rust, Golang, or similar) and experience with modern software development environments (git, CI/CD, LLM coding tools, etc.).
  • Experience using AI tools (LLMs, ML models) to identify/address security issues (vulnerabilities, detection/response).
  • Ability to ship MVPs, test hypotheses, and evolve products based on user feedback; durable, pragmatic problem-solving balancing security and business needs.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field, or equivalent.
