About the role

Senior Software Engineer, Native Mobile on the App Infra team, leading a greenfield rewrite of Coinbase's retail mobile app from React Native to native Swift and Kotlin, with AI-assisted code generation to accelerate development and improve quality.

Responsibilities

  • Accelerate every other Frontend engineer by defining architectural patterns, improving build speeds, and optimizing development workflows.
  • Own the development of core app surfaces in Swift and Kotlin, translating React Native flows into native implementations while meeting performance budgets and upholding project-level quality.
  • Build within the AI-assisted code generation loop, using LLM-driven translation with human validation to ensure production-quality outputs.
  • Partner with product teams during onboarding to review native PRs, challenge suboptimal patterns, and address slow paths between native and React Native codebases.
  • Drive performance optimization across device tiers, perform trade-off analyses to reduce loading indicators, scroll jank, and stalls, with emphasis on low-end Android devices.
  • Contribute to dual-app parity during transition, identifying and addressing technical debt while coordinating feature/bug fixes across codebases.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of iOS or Android mobile software engineering experience (Swift/iOS or Kotlin/Android).
  • Proven ability to build and ship performant mobile apps with focus on frame stability, cold start optimization, and responsive UI across diverse devices.
  • Proficiency in Swift or Kotlin with working knowledge of the other, willingness to develop cross-platform fluency.
  • Experience with mobile CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and release processes with outcomes that extend beyond a single development cycle.
  • Experience using generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
