About the role

Senior Software Engineer role on MongoDB’s Cluster Scalability team, focusing on data partitioning, data movement, and dynamic scaling to enable seamless horizontal scaling and reliable multi-node operation of MongoDB’s distributed database.

Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively design and build distributed infrastructure that unifies independent query-processing and storage nodes into a single database system.
  • Build data-movement and dynamic-scaling features on top of the distributed core.
  • Develop mechanisms for seamless horizontal scaling with minimal tradeoffs, improved cluster elasticity, and smarter workload execution.
  • Solve complex performance problems and design protocols for moving and placing data without disruption.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions and implement features that scale to meet customer demand at any volume.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience building distributed systems
  • Experience with building production-level code with a large user base, robust design structure and rigorous code quality, written in C++
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture
  • Passion for theory and practice of system design for large-scale distributed systems, plus hands-on or academic experience in the domain
  • Understanding of modern computer architecture and internals to reason about design choices in MongoDB's context
  • Demonstrated industry success or academic research in: high performance/low latency networking, performance tuning, distributed systems, system observability, system resiliency
