About the role

Lab Manager responsible for day-to-day operation, readiness, and discipline of Space Manufacturing lab spaces across three sites, including cleanroom/contamination-control, safety, equipment readiness, and materials flow; lead transition to new facility and help hire/develop technicians while performing hands-on work.

Responsibilities

  • Own the daily operation and readiness of all three Space Manufacturing lab spaces — HQA space lab, 3030 temporary cleanroom, and the new facility — including gowning/anterooms, air showers, test bays, subassembly and assembly zones, and storage.
  • Own the contamination-control program for each cleanroom (ISO 5–8): gowning protocols and throughput, continuous particle monitoring, cleanroom certification cadence, and consumables stock/flow.
  • Manage lab equipment, assets, and material flow across sites: check-in/check-out, calibration/metrology scheduling (in-house and vendor), preventive maintenance, tool/fixture readiness, receiving/kitting/stores/consumables flow with supply chain and quality.
  • Safety point of contact for labs: enforce safe work practices, hazardous-material and specialty-gas handling/storage, partner with EHS on chemical handling, permits, and audits.
  • Serve as the lab’s voice to corporate facilities and shared services: define space needs and coordinate with facilities/maintenance and outside vendors on AHUs, environmental monitoring, gases, repairs, moves, and space changes to keep systems in spec.
  • Drive lab standards and documentation: SOPs, gowning/contamination-control work instructions, safety procedures, and certification/monitoring records for audits.
  • Lead transition of work into new facility: plan space, systems, and support-staff needs, help stand up new areas, and wind down temporary space as capability moves.
  • Partner with AI&T, manufacturing engineering, and program teams to sequence work and keep WIP moving.
  • Operate as working lead: perform hands-on lab/cleanroom/equipment work while hiring/mentoring/directing technicians as sites scale.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years operating or managing a manufacturing lab, cleanroom, or comparable controlled production environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a technical/science discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 3+ years hands-on experience operating or managing an ISO-classified cleanroom (ISO 5–8 or equivalent) or other contamination-controlled environment.
  • 2+ years working with cleanroom systems — environmental and particle monitoring, gowning and air-shower discipline, cleanroom certification requirements, and HVAC/AHUs knowledge.
  • Hands-on safety experience with hazardous-material and compressed/specialty-gas handling and storage, including 1+ year as safety point of contact.
  • Experience managing lab equipment, a calibration/metrology program, and asset tracking across 50+ tools/assets, plus receiving/inventory/consumables flow.
  • Experience owning readiness for 2+ distinct lab or cleanroom spaces (or multi-room site) at once, including coordinating moves and stand-up of new space.
  • 2+ years leading or mentoring a team (formal management or team-lead), with hands-on role and ability to hire/develop others.
  • Experience building and enforcing procedures and keeping a lab audit-ready; willingness to work on-site full-time in a fast-paced hardware environment, coordinating across engineering, operations, quality, and vendors.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
