About the role

Vida is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer III to join the Enablement Team. This fully remote, U.S.-based role focuses on modernizing, consolidating, and scaling Vida’s infrastructure as they take on new enterprise contracts starting January 1. You’ll be the first dedicated SRE, shaping the SRE function and working cross-functionally to improve reliability, observability, and deployment automation.

Responsibilities

  • Consolidate Terraform into a clean, well-documented structure with conventions for state management, module structure, code review, and CI checks.
  • Normalize environments, improve build and deploy automation in GitHub Actions, and add drift detection and alerting.
  • Apply overdue patches and upgrades across Cloud SQL databases and application runtimes.
  • Right-size compute and database workloads for growth, including connection pooling and scaling improvements for high-traffic services.
  • Evaluate Kubernetes architecture as we grow, including multi-cluster considerations.
  • Improve monitoring and observability in Datadog and Cloud Monitoring to catch issues proactively.
  • Design observability access for contractors and external partners while protecting PHI.
  • Retire legacy infrastructure and tooling.
  • Build repeatable operational processes, including runbooks, on-call rotation, and escalation documentation.
  • Support infrastructure readiness for Vida's January 1 enterprise launches.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering with production ownership
  • Deep hands-on Terraform experience (modules and cross-environment state management)
  • Strong knowledge of GCP (GKE, Cloud SQL MySQL/PostgreSQL, IAM, networking, load balancing, cost management)
  • Production Kubernetes experience (autoscaling, resource management, decisions about in-cluster vs outside)
  • Hands-on experience building monitoring/alerting/dashboards (Datadog or Cloud Monitoring)
  • Proficiency in Python for tooling and automation
  • Ability to work across multiple teams and explain infrastructure decisions to non-specialists
