About the role

Rolling out scalable manufacturing for home robotics. Own multi-process manufacturing transitions, DFMs, tooling, supplier qualification, cost modeling, and floor support to scale production from prototypes to volume.

Responsibilities

  • Own process transitions: Move parts from prototype to production processes (e.g., 3D printing to injection molding, machining to die casting or stamping, softgoods prototyping to tooled and sewn production).
  • Drive DFM: Review and redline part designs for target processes (molding, casting, stamping, softgoods design).
  • Own tooling: Specify, quote, and qualify molds, dies, and fixtures; manage tool timelines and first articles.
  • Qualify suppliers: Select and develop vendors for molded, cast, stamped, and sewn parts; run first-article inspection and drive corrective action.
  • Model cost and track throughput: Maintain per-part/process cost models; monitor production against KPIs and metrics.
  • Support the floor: Design fixtures and improve assembly processes for transitioned parts to avoid schedule misses.
  • Manage bridge production: Keep parts flowing on old process while new one qualifies and cut over cleanly.

Qualifications

  • Manufacturing engineering experience: 3+ years taking electromechanical or consumer products from prototype into volume manufacturing.
  • Multi-process DFM depth: Hands-on DFM across at least three of: injection molding, die casting, CNC machining, stamping/sheet metal, additive manufacturing, softgoods/sewn products.
  • Tooling experience: Specified and qualified production tooling; first articles handling.
  • Supplier fluency: Experience quoting, selecting, and managing part suppliers; evaluating capabilities.
  • Cost literacy: Ability to defend tooling decisions with a break-even calculation.
  • CAD proficiency: Solid modeling and drawing review in SolidWorks, OnShape, or similar with GD&T.
