About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Applied AI Engineer to build the intelligence layer behind Elayne, focusing on document intelligence, entity resolution, agentic workflows, evaluation, provenance, and production AI infrastructure for estate settlement.

Responsibilities

  • Build an AI system that understands an estate: extract and reconcile people, accounts, assets, liabilities, relationships, and legal facts across thousands of messy documents and external data sources
  • Develop financial discovery workflows: build agents and tool integrations that investigate fragmented financial and government data, identify potential assets, surface missing information, and recommend next steps
  • Create traceable outputs and human review: connect answers to supporting evidence, validate critical facts, identify uncertainty and conflicting sources, and route consequential decisions for human review
  • Implement evaluation and monitoring: build evaluation datasets, regression tests, and production monitoring to measure quality, understand failures, and assess changes to prompts, models, and pipelines
  • Own production AI infrastructure: model selection and routing, data pipelines, latency, cost, retries, and failure recovery for reliable integration into real workflows
  • Ensure accuracy and accountability: build systems that minimize missed accounts, incorrect filings, or delayed inheritances and provide clear paths for review

Qualifications

  • Shipped and operated AI systems with production document processing, extraction, retrieval, or agents from development through deployment and improvement
  • Ability to measure reliability, identify failure cases, evaluate quality, catch regressions, and determine when human review is needed
  • Strong Python and backend engineering skills for APIs, data pipelines, services, and infrastructure around models
  • Experience with ambiguous data, document matching across sources, and developing evaluation criteria for difficult answers
  • Ownership mindset with the ability to turn open-ended problems into working systems and communicate architectural decisions clearly

About Elayne

AI copilot for growing, organizing, and transferring family estates

Elayne helps families organize their assets, estate documents, and key contacts in one place, then guides them through life transitions as circumstances and priorities evolve. Like getting married, moving, having a baby, or losing a parent. Unlike traditional wealth management tools or online estate platforms that produce static legal documents, Elayne is dynamic, intelligent, and built not just to delight, but to comfort and guide you when it matters most. I started Elayne after my mom passed away and I had to settle her estate, accounts, and affairs - essentially, I suddenly had to untangle all the details of her life. It was shocking how fragmented and opaque the process was and how I spent hundreds of hours chasing documents, coordinating accounts, filling legal gaps, and navigating unfamiliar systems, all while grieving and working full time. It shouldn’t be that way. In the future, you could hire an attorney, download DIY legal forms, fax and mail physical documents, sync 10 different fintech apps, use a financial planner, spend thousands in fees, and hope it all holds together. Or, you could just use Elayne.
