About the role

Software Engineer, New Grad joins Harvey's Engineering team to build AI-powered systems for leading law firms and enterprises, delivering secure, high-performance application-layer experiences and contributing production code from day one across retrieval, document intelligence, and workflow automation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and ship production-level code across the stack while maintaining high quality, reliability, and security standards. You'll use AI-assisted development tools daily, and you’ll own the quality of everything you ship—AI-generated or not.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including AI Research, Legal Engineering, Product, and Design to translate problem statements into compelling product experiences.
  • Collaborate with your team through code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best-practice development alongside senior and staff engineers.
  • Experiment with and evaluate cutting-edge LLMs and AI systems, contributing to how Harvey's platform evolves.
  • Depending on your team, you could work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, graduated either in Winter 2026 - Spring 2027.
  • Able to work from our New York or San Francisco office starting in January 2027 and beyond, based on your graduation schedule. Relocation support is available.
  • Previous internship experience is required.
  • Technical foundation. Strong proficiency in one or more languages (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar) and solid general computer science knowledge.
  • Decisiveness. You have a bias toward action and have built something start to finish in coursework, a personal project, or a past internship.
  • Simplicity. You can explain a complex technical idea in plain language and seek simple solutions.
  • Job's Not Finished. You proactively seek feedback and continue improving after completion; past internship experience at an early-stage startup is a plus.
  • AI Forward. Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools and curious about integrating LLMs into coding workflows.
