About the role

Software Engineer, Intern (Summer 2027) at Harvey. 12-16 week internship across multiple teams (Frontend, Backend, Full-Stack, Infrastructure, Applied AI) in New York or San Francisco. Build real features, collaborate with Product, AI, Legal, and GTM teams, and gain hands-on experience across the stack with AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities

  • Own a project end-to-end from coding and testing to deploying it to production, and presenting your work to peers and leaders across the company.
  • Write clean, maintainable code that meets our team's standards. You'll use AI-assisted development tools daily, and you’ll own the quality of everything you ship—AI-generated or not.
  • Build real knowledge of the systems you support and the users they serve, bringing that perspective into product discussions.
  • Debug problems in your area, follow escalation procedures, and treat quality as urgent.
  • Collaborate with your team through code review, pair programming, design reviews and technical documentation.
  • Depending on your team, you could work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data. You'll also evaluate frontier models alongside senior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in computer science, engineering, or a related field with a graduation date of December 2027 or later.
  • Able to work from our New York or San Francisco offices during our summer cohort, based on your academic schedule. Relocation support is available.
  • Previous internship experience is required.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more languages (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar) and solid general computer science knowledge.
  • Bias toward action and demonstrated ability to complete a project start to finish.
  • Ability to explain complex technical ideas in plain language and prefer simple, effective solutions.
  • Not satisfied with just something that works; seeks feedback and continues improving.
  • Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) and interested in integrating LLMs into coding workflow.
