About the role

Software Engineer, New Grad joining Harvey's Engineering team to build AI-powered systems for legal and professional services, with an accelerated path to ownership and opportunities across multiple teams (Frontend, Backend, Full-Stack, Infrastructure, Applied AI).

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and ship production-level code across the stack while maintaining high quality, reliability, and security standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including AI Research, Legal Engineering, Product, and Design to translate problem statements into compelling product experiences.
  • Collaborate with your team through code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best-practice development alongside senior and staff engineers.
  • Experiment with and evaluate cutting-edge LLMs and AI systems, contributing to how Harvey's platform evolves.
  • Depending on your team, you could work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, graduated Winter 2026 - Spring 2027.
  • Able to work from New York or San Francisco office starting January 2027, relocation support available.
  • Previous internship experience required.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more languages (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar) and solid general computer science knowledge.
  • Bias toward action and ability to own end-to-end work.
  • Ability to explain complex ideas in plain language and seek simplest viable solutions.
  • Drive to improve beyond initial implementation and seek feedback.
  • Comfort with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) and interest in integrating LLMs into workflows.
