Senior Manager, Technical Brand & Content
About the role
Role focusing on building and amplifying Airbnb’s technical brand and content by documenting engineering work, shaping editorial strategy, and increasing engineers’ public presence and impact.
Responsibilities
- Own the editorial engine. Run the Airbnb Tech Blog end to end: sourcing topics from teams, coaching engineer-authors, editing to a high bar, and moving posts through legal, security and comms review without letting them stall. Set and hold a publishing rhythm the org can rely on.
- Find the cross-team narratives. Identify themes that connect work from multiple teams and publish them as connected sets while preserving depth within domains.
- Build our voices. Help engineers and technical leaders develop public presence: bylines, talks, speaker coaching, and a pipeline of new voices; partner with the CTO to establish his public technical presence.
- Own distribution. Establish canonical home on an Airbnb-owned domain, develop missing surfaces including video, and determine social channels.
- Run our external presence. Set conference and event strategy, decide where we speak or sponsor, manage hosting, and oversee academic collaborations and technical media relationships, including budgets and vendors.
- Steward our open source presence. Ensure public claims are accurate and maintained, and that projects bearing Airbnb’s name reflect desired branding.
- Prove it works. Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to tie editorial work to hiring outcomes, and assess attribution honestly.
Qualifications
- Substantial experience in technical content, developer relations, engineering communications or technical editorial, including direct work with engineers.
- Technical fluency; ability to participate in systems design discussions and read design docs; credibility with staff engineers.
- Editorial judgment and hands-on craft; ability to sharpen drafts while preserving authors’ voice.
- Influence without authority; capability to build systems/incentives to elicit contributions from busy senior people.
- Program discipline; experience managing events, budgets and vendors end to end.
- Measurement literacy; ability to connect brand work to funnel outcomes and discuss attribution limits.
- Judgment on risk; experience navigating legal and security reviews.
