About the role

Data Visualization Engineer at SpaceXSI in Palo Alto, CA. Owns how data turns into decisions by administering the BI platform, building dashboards, and partnering with the business to shape a modern, unified reporting and analytics solution.

Responsibilities

  • Administering BI platform (Tableau Server) as sole administrator: upgrades, patches, maintenance, license management, SSO, and data drivers
  • Supporting 12 department sites and about 700 users, including owning the tbl-site-admins and tableau Slack channels
  • Handling BI requests through Slack and Jira (about 12/week): access, ownership changes, data source issues, troubleshooting, and bug fixes
  • Communicating downtime, upgrades, and widespread issues with Site Admins, users, and developers
  • Quickly designing and building dashboards and data products that turn complex data into decision-ready insight
  • Maintaining inventory of existing reports/dashboards and guiding migration decisions
  • Helping stakeholders select the right solution for each use case (dashboard, custom app, Grok bot, etc.) and leading migrations
  • Setting standards for data access, row-level security, and visualization quality

Qualifications

  • Strong SQL with complex joins, window functions, and performance tuning
  • Data visualization and dashboard design, UX, and storytelling with data
  • Row-level security and data access controls
  • Rapid dashboard development in Tableau, Looker, Power BI, Superset, or similar
  • Platform administration fundamentals: SSO/SAML, APIs, monitoring
  • Comfort using AI tools to speed up analysis, development, and migrations
