About the role

Senior Supplier Quality Engineer responsible for defining and executing processes to deliver high-quality hardware by collaborating with design teams and suppliers, driving supplier development, and ensuring quality across the product lifecycle in defense hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with design teams to support design development, provide design for manufacturability feedback, and generate product data (drawing details, BOM information, and part requirements) for supplier quality success.
  • Utilize knowledge across manufacturing disciplines (machining, fabrication, electromechanical assembly, special processes, inspection/measurement) to support internal design, manage technical risks, prototyping, and scaling designs for production.
  • Drive supplier quality development throughout product development stages with the product engineering team through design reviews, supplier process development, testing, and qualification for components and sub-assemblies.
  • Review supplier processes and capabilities to ensure alignment to product requirements.
  • Partner with development engineering, product quality engineering, sourcing engineering, category management, and program management to deliver predictable supply and manage exceptions/containments/deviations for supplier technical performance, especially in development phases.
  • Drive supplier quality readiness by analyzing key/critical characteristics, developing measurement systems, and leading supplier qualification activities (PPAP, FAIR, audits, inspection development).
  • Partner with Global Strategic Sourcing and Product Sourcing Engineering to improve supplier performance for cost, quality, delivery, and fulfillment of strategic goals.
  • Own elimination of supplier risk to improve quality and reliability; use audits, readiness reviews, training, and documentation for compliance.
  • Support RCCA and MRB activities, and own containments from purchased goods.
  • Review supplier effectiveness of actions and share lessons learned; drive SCAR process.
  • Audit supplier Quality Management System to ensure compliance and flow-down requirements; define/improve documentation and activities as needed.
  • Prepare, support, and lead supplier onsite audits and reviews for contract deliverables for quality mgmt and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or similar technical field.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments across hardware commodity areas (machined parts, fabrications, electromechanical assemblies, castings/forgings, PCBAs, cable/harness).
  • Experience scaling supplier capabilities and quality from prototype to low-rate and high-rate production; experience with source inspection at manufacturers, preferably in aerospace/defense; experience flowing down source control requirements to suppliers.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100/ISO 9001 QMS requirements; AS9100 Lead/Internal Auditor Certification or equivalent is a plus.
  • Experience performing First Article Inspection to AS9102 and ensuring suppliers have control plans capable of meeting product requirements.
  • Experience driving supplier performance and evaluation; familiarity with SOW, quality clauses, IP, ITAR.
  • Knowledge of product development methodologies (FMEA, APQP, PPAP elements including MSA, quality improvement, GD&T).
  • Strong ownership, project leadership from start to finish.
  • Analytical skills with data mining, data quality, metrics, issue management systems, and statistical tools (MATLAB, JMP, Minitab).
  • Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
