About the role
Join Arc Institute’s Infrastructure Engineering team to own support and operations for the laboratory information management system (LIMS), enabling scientists to record samples and experiments, support data pipelines, and automate recurring requests. mentored by a Tech Lead, with growth toward owning parts of the lab platform.
Responsibilities
- Run the request queue for Arc's lab data systems, including schema changes and ensuring pipelines remain intact
- Support templates scientists record experiments with, and the command-line tools that pull data for analysis
- Run training sessions for scientists, and write documentation
- Build and maintain checks to catch errors in data as it’s entered
- Help refactor the team and permission structure in LIMS
- Turn recurring requests into automation (scripts, scheduled jobs, templates, or AI agents); write runbooks and ensure changes go through code review
- By the end of the first year: build tools to make screen and experiment metadata queryable across systems; run the queue and ship schema changes autonomously with Tech Lead review; own a part of the lab platform from design through support
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 0-2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree
- Solid Python and SQL coding
- Comfort working with REST APIs
- Ability to debug problems in systems you didn’t build using code, logs, and data
- Experience with AI coding tools or willingness to learn; careful with sensitive research data
- Strong documentation and training writing
- Ability to explain technical concepts to scientists and write clear docs
- Collaborative problem solving with scientists; proactive ownership of tasks
- Ability to work onsite in Palo Alto office at least 3 days a week
