Backend Engineer (AI-Native) — Risk Infrastructure & Integrations
About the role
Backend Engineer focused on AI-native risk infrastructure and integrations for Coris, building and owning processor/platform integrations, risk engine, and customer-facing APIs in a production environment.
Responsibilities
- Own processor and platform integrations. Build and operate ingestion from Stripe, Adyen, Fiserv, TSYS, Repay, and new processors as we sign them: APIs, webhooks, and batch file feeds. Make them correct, idempotent, observable, and PCI-safe.
- Own the partner API and customer-specific work. Extend the v2 API, build per-customer configuration and signals, and work directly with customers' risk and ops teams to turn a vague report into a fix, fast.
- Build the risk engine. Add signals and rules to the DAG engine that scores merchants and transactions; design Postgres schemas, indexes, partitions, and aggregations that stay fast at billions of rows.
- Run it in prod. Celery workers, backfills, deadlocks, circuit breakers, latency, Sentry monitoring. You ship it, you own it.
- Use AI everywhere it earns its place. Coding agents for first drafts and refactors, AI review on every PR, and LLMs inside the product (dispute agents, document parsing, structured extraction). You'll also help set the team's standards for how we use these tools.
- ~10–20% product-facing TypeScript/Next.js when a feature needs it.
Qualifications
- A few years shipping production Python backends (Django/Postgres or close; 3+ years is a guide)
- Experience owning a system in production through growth (schema changes on large tables, concurrency and locking bugs, backfills, on-call)
- Strong SQL skills and ability to read a query plan
- Experience with AI-native tooling and usage of coding agents/LLMs in workflows
- Judgment about AI outputs and safe deployment practices (money/PII-sensitive changes, migrations on large tables)
- Comfort with customer interactions and working with risk/ops teams
- Ownership mindset with equity-focused startup attitude and ability to handle ambiguity
