About the role

Senior Backend Engineer at MAG (Novig's market-making arm) responsible for building the core trading engine, data pipelines, risk controls, and high-throughput infrastructure for live sports prediction markets.

Responsibilities

  • Build the core trading engine powering market-making across multiple venues.
  • Own infrastructure connecting to venues, normalize real-time market data, manage orders and positions, and enforce risk controls.
  • Collaborate with traders to translate feedback into faster execution, tooling, and new strategies.
  • Share on-call duty and cover one weekend roughly every six weeks.
  • Architect and implement deterministic, event-driven systems for matching, settlement, and market-making flows.
  • Develop high-throughput, low-latency data ingestion, distribution, replay, order gateways, session management, and pre-/at-trade risk checks.
  • Create developer-first APIs for algorithmic trading integrations and reliable endpoints for programmatic/UI clients.
  • Work with frontend, trading, product, and SRE teams to ensure recovery, failover, observability, and performance.
  • Expand product surface via modular backend services and contribute to architecture, production debugging, and regulatory readiness.
  • Optimize hot paths with profiling and tracing; improve modularity, stability, and compliance.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in distributed or real-time systems.
  • Proficiency in Go, Rust, or C++ and knowledge of concurrent programming, event-driven architectures, and relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred).
  • Understanding of CAP tradeoffs, ordering semantics, and consistency/availability considerations.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-team collaboration skills.
