About the role

We are hiring a Manager Technical Writer to guide the creation of world-class documentation for the MongoDB data platform. Lead a technical writing team, influence the strategic vision for MongoDB docs, and drive AI-assisted documentation workflows in a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a technical writing team with opportunity for team growth
  • Integrate with a highly collaborative, globally distributed group of documentation leaders to build a strong cross-functional documentation team
  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Design, Developer Relations, and Product Marketing to ensure the documentation meets the needs of our users
  • Guide the team's adoption of AI-assisted research, writing, and review workflows, ensuring quality and technical accuracy remain high
  • Foster a positive and effective team culture
  • Develop the writing, testing, and technical skills of the team through coaching
  • Contribute feedback to the team through copy review and planning discussions
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product on the team’s roadmap
  • Interview and hire talented writers for all areas of the MongoDB Docs team
  • Advocate for users in everything your team produces
  • Produce technically accurate and well-written documentation when time permits

Qualifications

  • Extensive technical writing experience
  • 2+ years of experience managing a team of technical writers, developer advocates, or other technical communications-focused roles
  • Passion for developing writing expertise on a team through reviews and mentorship
  • Experience prioritizing and planning documentation projects
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other documentation leaders and writers
  • Experience growing a technical writing team through interviewing, hiring, and onboarding
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools to accelerate documentation work
  • Ability to apply editorial judgment to evaluate AI-generated content against source material for technical accuracy
  • Strong critical reading and writing skills
  • Experience with cloud and database technologies
  • Ability to write code for technical examples in at least one programming language (e.g., C++, C#, Java, Python, JavaScript) and read/interpret code
