About the role

Engineering Manager leading a team that builds reliable data services and privacy/governance capabilities for data at scale within Coinbase’s Data Platform.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and grow engineers; support their development and career progression.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Engineering, and senior leaders to set a clear quarterly roadmap and deliver it iteratively.
  • Guide technical decisions and promote high-quality code, sound engineering practices, and reliable distributed systems.
  • Stay close to the work through design and code reviews, incident leadership, on-call participation, and troubleshooting when needed.
  • Own processes that improve engineering quality and help the team meet its service-level commitments.
  • Partner with recruiting to attract and hire strong engineers.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in data platform or infrastructure, including 2+ years in engineering management.
  • Experience building, delivering, and operating distributed systems at scale.
  • Strong engineering judgment and the ability to foster quality, maintainability, and effective development practices.
  • Execution-focused approach: able to work through ambiguity, balance near-term delivery with long-term planning, and turn complex goals into actionable work.
  • Hands-on leadership style and willingness to engage in technical work and operational responsibilities.
  • Experience leading technical change in a large, fast-moving organization.
  • Familiarity with blockchain infrastructure, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum.
  • Clear communication, ownership, and a strong customer focus.
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
