About the role
Onsite, full-time role to inspect welds on industrial piping and structural steel for SpaceXSI data centers, supporting buildout of high-performance AI supercomputing infrastructure with significant travel to data center sites.
Responsibilities
- Inspect welds in progress and at completion on large-bore industrial piping and structural steel, and accept or reject them against the applicable code, welding procedure specification (WPS), and drawings.
- Interpret AWS, ASME, and project specifications against isometric, spool, structural, and arrangement drawings.
- Monitor GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW work and confirm it is performed to the qualified welding procedure.
- Verify and document welder qualifications before a welder is released to weld on the package.
- Check joint design and preparation, fit-up, cleanliness, tack quality, preheat, interpass temperature, and interpass and final cleaning.
- Verify base metal and filler metal against the applicable specifications, including control and handling of welding consumables.
- Recommend and verify repairs, then visually inspect the completed repair before the joint is released.
- Oversee nondestructive examination and any required proof or mechanical testing, and confirm fabrication and inspection records are complete.
- Record inspection results and communicate findings to construction, welding, and engineering.
- Review contractor welding and inspection practices on site.
- Follow hot-work, LOTO, PPE, and site rules; report rejected welds, unsafe conditions, and drawing conflicts immediately.
- Support punch-list and NDE hold points through system turnover.
Qualifications
- Current American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
