About the role

Senior CFD Engineer based in Perth, Australia. You will work with Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and customers to deliver high-fidelity simulations, contribute to simulation pipelines, generate datasets for AI/ML models, and evolve CFD setups for Deep Learning surrogate development within PhysicsX’s AI-native engineering platform.

Responsibilities

  • Building models from geometry clean-up and meshing through to simulating and post-processing, for simple to moderately complex cases with guidance from senior engineers
  • Adapting and using parametric CAD models (NX or CATIA), contributing to simulation pipeline automation for design optimisation and DoE studies
  • Supporting customer-facing work by helping prepare and present results clearly, under direction of more senior team members
  • Working at the intersection of CAE and Data Science to generate simulation datasets for training ML models and understanding data sampling effects on model accuracy and cost
  • Using Flux (cloud platform) and on-premise HPC resources to run simulations and applying smarter meshing and setup choices to improve performance
  • Learning and applying engineering best practices, and adapting CFD model setups/outputs to support Deep Learning surrogate development
  • Contributing to a culture of collaboration and shared learning within the Simulation Engineering guild, including onboarding newer engineers (L2)
  • Opportunity for growth as IC or Team Lead, with potential ownership of complex projects and future solution directions

Qualifications

  • Foundation in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and multiphase modelling
  • Ability to apply core engineering principles to real-world problems under guidance
  • Working knowledge of Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM, or Fluent
  • Experience with built-in automation features to support scalable workflows
  • Exposure to parametric CAD modelling (NX or CATIA)
  • Coding in Python or Java (advantage)
