Network & Infrastructure Engineer
About the role
Hybrid role owning hands-on networking and physical infrastructure across Berkeley and Fremont sites, with supporting AWS cloud environment and infrastructure-as-code practices. Combines on-site networking/physical infrastructure with cloud DevOps responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Own the network across Berkeley labs and Fremont fab, including routing and connectivity into secured fabrication environments and unify networking, hardware, and IT infrastructure into a documented, consistent process
- Install, rack, cable, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical servers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, storage, and related infrastructure equipment
- Support IT and Infrastructure with cable management, hardware maintenance, upgrades, and software configuration
- Provide hands-on infrastructure support at both locations (Berkeley and Fremont)
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of network issues (connectivity, hardware, software, cabling, routing)
- Support planned maintenance, upgrades, and changes to network infrastructure
- Design and stand up network infrastructure for new lab/fab/system buildouts as we scale
- Complete cleanroom training to support infrastructure inside fabrication environments
- Handle occasional overnight maintenance windows and on-call rotations for on-site support
- Assist with planning and execution of current and future infrastructure needs across on-premise and cloud (AWS) environments
- Provide support for cloud/on-premise infrastructure resources following best practices
- Assist with building/configuring/maintaining servers or VMs on-premise and in the cloud
- Apply Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible, or similar) to provision/manage infrastructure
- Support CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows that touch infrastructure delivery
- Support containerized workloads (Kubernetes/Docker) where they intersect with infrastructure provisioning and networking
- Follow detailed internal procedures to ensure work is performed accurately, consistently, and safely
- Flex between network/physical infrastructure work and cloud/DevOps work based on priorities
- Growth area: recommend purchase orders, work with vendors, and help guide technical requirements for infrastructure buildouts (nice-to-have)
Qualifications
- 5–8+ years of hands-on experience with physical infrastructure (servers, racks, switches, patch panels, cabling, PDUs)
- 5–8+ years of networking concepts and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, firewalls, network security)
- 5+ years with Arista, Cisco, Palo Alto, Meraki, Raritan, APC, or similar platforms
- Experience installing/configuring/upgrading/troubleshooting physical servers, network devices, or infrastructure systems
- Ability to work on-site at Berkeley and Fremont locations
- Must lift/carry IT equipment up to 50 lbs
- Hands-on experience with AWS or cloud infrastructure
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, Ansible, or other IaC tools (expert-level ideal, working proficiency minimum)
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, or containerized infrastructure (deep experience a plus)
- Experience with Linux systems administration
- Experience with VMware/Proxmox/Hyper-V or other virtualization platforms
- Strong troubleshooting across hardware, network, OS, and cloud
- Ability to follow SOPs, safety protocols, change-management, and documentation
Skills

About Rigetti Computing
Quantum coherent supercomputing.
Rigetti Computing is building the world’s most powerful computers to help solve humanity’s most pressing and important problems. These systems will perform computations that today’s fastest supercomputers are incapable of — unlocking entirely new classes of problems and offering a direct path to solutions. We are scientists, engineers, builders, and visionaries. We believe quantum computing is going to significantly affect health care, how we treat disease, how we generate energy, and how we feed humanity. Rigetti is the only company deploying full-stack solutions for hybrid classical/quantum computing. Our 19-qubit quantum computer is available online through our Forest platform, and the first commercially useful applications are already under exploration. We were founded in 2013 by Chad Rigetti, and are located Berkeley and Fremont, California.
