About the role

Engineer role focused on building agents to accelerate production of frontier tokens, embedding with the special projects team, and shipping internal products and tools end-to-end in an on-site San Jose setting.

Responsibilities

  • Embed with the special projects team to identify bottlenecks and own each from idea to a daily-use tool.
  • Build and deploy LLM agents wired into engineering workflows via tool-calling and MCP.
  • Ship full-stack internal products from zero to one: interfaces, data pipelines, and infrastructure that define how Etched builds.
  • Measure what works by designing evals and tracking adoption to prioritize impactful tools.
  • Tackle special projects directly with the founders to hit critical milestones.

Qualifications

  • 1-5+ years of experience building and shipping software end to end, ideally at a fast-moving startup
  • Strong full-stack skills with focus on workable shipped outcomes
  • Experience building LLM agents or AI tooling that real users rely on (context engineering, tool integration, evals, failure analysis)
  • Ability to use AI to ramp quickly in unfamiliar domains; familiarity with agentic coding tools and frontier models
  • Product sense, design taste, and extreme attention to detail
  • High autonomy and initiative to identify and solve real problems beyond the stated ones
