About the role

Meta Robotics Studio seeks a Software Engineer to architect and evolve the Robotics OS (NVIDIA Jetson Linux for Thor-class robot compute), focusing on board support package, kernel, OS image, update system, real-time behavior, and fleet tooling across robot programs and compute platforms. The role is hands-on and involves close collaboration with hardware, firmware, controls, and AI teams, as well as NVIDIA Jetson engineering teams, to enable deterministic boot and operation for real-time control and AI workloads.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the technical strategy and multi-year roadmap for the Robotics OS (BSP, kernel, OS image, update system, real-time behavior, GPU platform, and fleet tooling) across AGX Thor, IGX Thor, and future NVIDIA silicon
  • Architect the next-generation OS image (Yocto / meta-tegra based), ensuring reproducibility, hermetic build, security, and fast iteration for many engineers
  • Define and drive production update strategy: atomic A/B and OTA updates, rollback, secure/verified boot, fusing and signing, factory provisioning
  • Shape the platform's real-time architecture: CPU core/interrupt/memory/GPU allocation for kilohertz control loops and large AI models; set and measure latency budgets
  • Collaborate with NVIDIA Jetson teams and other Meta engineers; push upstream fixes and plan adoption of new Jetson Linux/JetPack releases with minimal fork debt
  • Partner with electrical, firmware, and mechanical engineers on compute and carrier-board designs; influence SoC configuration, interfaces, power and thermal
  • Drive bring-up of new boards/modules end-to-end (boot chain, BPMP, device tree, pinmux, PCIe/USB/Ethernet, power profiles, and drivers for EtherCAT, USB-C PD, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, sensors, cameras)
  • Help set quality bar for RT kernel and out-of-tree drivers (kernel config, ABI compatibility, upstream or align with Meta kernel)
  • Build reliability and observability foundation (crash/kernel-log capture, symbolization, boot-time tracing, health telemetry, fleet triage tooling)
  • Mentor and raise the bar for engineers through design reviews, technical hiring, and on-call/operational practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of experience building and shipping system software for embedded Linux or Android-based products
  • Experience architecting and owning an operating system, BSP or platform software stack on a shipped hardware product
  • Deep experience with C and Linux kernel internals (drivers, device tree, scheduling, interrupts, memory management)
  • Proficient in at least one of C++, Rust or Python
  • Experience driving new-SoC or new-board bring-up on ARM64 from boot through production OS
  • Experience designing OS image build and release systems (Yocto/OpenEmbedded, Buildroot, Debian packaging or AOSP) and update strategies
  • Experience debugging hard cross-layer problems across hardware, firmware, kernel and user space
  • Experience influencing technical direction across multiple teams or external vendors
