About the role

Network Infrastructure Design Engineer for Meta's Edge/Backbone Foundation Design team, focused on delivering scalable ICT infrastructure across global colocation estates (EMEA primary, APAC secondary) including POPs, cable landing stations, and backbone sites.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, reviews, and optimizes ICT physical infrastructure for large-scale data centres and network deployments
  • Develops and enforces Meta ICT design standards and best practices with regional code alignment
  • Develops optimized edge/backbone floor plans allocating space for network, optical, backbone, IP, and compute
  • Delivers on-time engineering design packages for sourcing and capacity planning
  • Manages space, power, cooling, cabling, and inside plant delivery across EMEA and supports APAC with regional partner
  • Engages in facility sizing of utilities, switchgear, UPS/DC power, PDUs, cooling, and low-voltage power distribution
  • Interacts with colocation providers to evaluate facilities and implement design requirements
  • Partners with APAC peers to align design approaches and maintain standards
  • Collaborates with internal/external teams to execute cage and data centre network/compute builds
  • Leads weekly syncs with external co-location vendors, provides technical support and progress reporting
  • Leads site acceptance activities with colocation providers per standards and regional testing conventions
  • Manages project timelines and risks, prioritizes concurrent projects, and drives execution through vendors
  • Collaborates with business/technical teams on space/power delivery and deployment initiatives
  • Updates capacity tracking systems for edge/backbone cage/suite build-outs
  • Coordinates delivery of Owner Furnished/Contractor Installed equipment from inventory to colocation facilities
  • Aligns with network planning/investment teams on roadmap and forecasting
  • Regular collaboration across time zones with ~20–30% travel, primarily within EMEA with periodic long-haul travel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 6+ years designing/building large-scale data centres or similar mission-critical infrastructure
  • Experience with project management of complex technical projects
  • Knowledge of regional electrical and cooling configurations (IEC, EN 50600, BS 7671/IET or regional equivalents); AC/DC power concepts; power redundancy topologies
  • Ability to interpret/analyze electrical/mechanical single-line diagrams
  • Field-based experience in POPs/data centres/carrier-neutral facilities or telecom exchanges
  • Experience communicating with and directing carriers and co-location vendors
  • Knowledge of internet networking technologies (routing/switching), optical transport (DWDM), and redundancy/failover concepts
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, BIM 360, Procore, or similar tools
  • Ability to define scope and drive progress with evolving requirements across global teams
  • Proven problem-solving abilities with limited supervision
