About the role

Firmware engineer bridging software and hardware for Matic’s robotics platform, focusing on embedded systems, motor/sensor integration, and cross-disciplinary collaboration between software and hardware teams.

Responsibilities

  • Bring-up and support for hardware changes (electrical and mechanical), including updating device drivers for new sensors, implementing tests for assembly, and coordinating robot behaviors (data filtering, bag fullness check).
  • Design and improve the behavioral logic and controls algorithms for Matic’s physical systems
  • Analyze robot logs along with motor and sensor data to debug hardware failures (e.g., docking/charging issues, unusual noises during operation)
  • Support internal processes with tooling to interface with Matic’s motors and sensors

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of industry experience or equivalent (e.g. grad school)
  • Core software skills: data structures, control flow, computer systems
  • Deep experience with systems programming languages: C, C++, Rust
  • Experience/proficiency with scripting/prototyping languages: Python
  • Experience with hardware: motors (brushed and brushless), controls systems, sensors, electrical fundamentals, mechanical intuition, hands-on building (robots, PCBs, 3D printing)
  • Experience with microcontrollers (STM32, PIC, ESP32, etc.)
  • Soft-skills: multi-disciplinary team & leadership experience, systems thinking, meticulousness, edge-case testing
