When Meta laid off about 10% of its staff this spring, the pullback showed up in its hiring. Open job postings on Meta's careers site fell from a peak of 886 in late March to 456 by the May 20 layoff, a drop of nearly half, as the company closed 853 listings across April and May.

The freeze didn't last. June was the first month since the peak with net-positive hiring (+57 roles), and open postings have recovered to 531, still well below where Meta started the quarter.

Where the remaining roles sit is the real story. Nearly half (44%) of Meta's open positions are now in AI and data-center infrastructure: data-center operations, AI and machine learning, hardware, and the teams building Meta's compute. Even while cutting overall, Meta kept hiring hard for the infrastructure behind its AI push.
