About the role

Software engineer role focused on Shepherd's AI product strategy and AI implementation across the platform, contributing to data collection, automated underwriting, and policy administration within a fast-growing MGU for commercial Property & Casualty insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Work with other engineers on developing Shepherd's AI product strategy
  • Iterate and experiment on AI implementation across our platform
  • Work across the stack, across disciplines (e.g. underwriting, design, product management)
  • Mentor other engineers as the team scales and contribute to culture
  • Balance innovation with pragmatic delivery and ship quality products
  • Contribute to product strategy and architectural decisions, not just implementation
  • Collaborate closely with PM, CTO, and the insurance team (underwriters, actuaries and more)

Qualifications

  • Experience with Javascript/Typescript (backend and/or frontend)
  • 3+ years of working experience (preferably as a full-stack engineer) with a track record of delivering high-impact products
  • Strong ownership mindset, ability to work in ambiguity, and ability to ship product frequently
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
