About the role

Senior full-stack software engineer role in NYC, joining Shepherd, a modernizing technology-driven MGU for commercial P&C insurance. The role is hands-on, cross-functional, and leadership-oriented, with ownership of large product areas and mentorship of engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead major initiatives and own large areas of Shepherd's product experience across verticals
  • Work across the stack and collaborate with underwriting, design, and product management
  • Mentor other engineers and help scale the team and culture
  • Balance innovation with pragmatic delivery and ship high-quality products
  • Contribute to product strategy and architectural decisions, not just implementation
  • Collaborate closely with PM, CTO, and insurance teams (underwriters, actuaries)

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience, preferably full-stack
  • Some experience with insurance (InsurTech or actuarial)
  • Experience with Javascript/Typescript (backend and/or frontend)
  • Ability to own features from conception to release
  • Comfort with ambiguity and shipping product frequently
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
