About the role

Senior systems engineer for Modal's serverless platform, focused on designing, building, and maintaining high-performance distributed systems at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain novel high-performance systems for the serverless platform
  • Contribute to performance engineering and optimization
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to production incidents
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure low-latency, reliable infrastructure

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience writing high-quality production code
  • Experience building high-performance distributed systems at a large scale
  • Strong cloud skills
  • Strong knowledge of low-level operating system foundations (Linux kernel, file systems, containers, etc.)
  • Experience with performance engineering (e.g., shaving milliseconds)
  • Ability to work in-person in Stockholm
  • Prior experience with Rust is nice to have but not required
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotation and respond to production incidents
