About the role

Backend-focused role building developer tools at Modal, with end-to-end web applications, cross-stack work (TypeScript frontend, Python backend, ClickHouse for data/analytics), and large-scale observability for AI workloads.

Qualifications

  • Experience building and shipping modern web applications end-to-end.
  • Comfort across stack: TypeScript frontend, Python backend, ClickHouse for data/analytics.
  • Deep knowledge of observability tools and patterns for large-scale workloads (custom sandboxes, training/inference for LLMs and diffusion models).
  • Experience with at least one: billing/payments systems, B2B SaaS tooling, enterprise software, or LLM/diffusion models inference and training workloads.
  • Strong product instincts and customer-focused thinking.
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotation and respond to production incidents.
  • Ability to balance fast shipping with scalability.
  • Ability to work in-person in NYC or SF office.
